Sunyani Municipality records thirty-six new births during Easter | 18th April, 2017

Thirty-six babies were born at some major hospitals in the Sunyani Municipality during the Easter festivities.

They are made up of 15 boys and 21girls, a visit by the Ghana News Agency to the health facilities on Monday, revealed.

The midwives on duty said 11 of the babies were born through Caesarean Sections (CS) and they are in good condition.

The health facilities visited were the Regional hospital, Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Florence Maternity Home and Owusu Memorial Hospital.

At the Regional Hospital, which recorded the highest deliveries of 26 babies with nine CS cases, Mrs Rosemond Owusu Kobe, a staff midwife, urged pregnant women to attend regular antenatal and post-natal clinics to avoid health complications.

Madam Patricia Alitui, a staff midwife at the SDA Hospital, said there is the need for pregnant women to take health education serious and ensure that they observed exclusive breastfeeding of their babies.

This, she said, would enable the babies to grow stronger and become intelligent, as well as protect them against infant sicknesses and deaths.

At the Florence Maternity Home, Madam Florence Ayisiwaa, the midwife on duty, appealed to husbands to encourage their wives to attend antenatal clinics at stipulated intervals and if possible endeavour to accompany them.
