37 Military Hospital extends free service to catchment area | 24th May, 2017

The 37 Military Hospital in Accra, on Tuesday, held a free medical exercise to the people in its catchment area to save them from developing fatal medical conditions.

Traders, drivers, passengers and others, including children and the elderly, who were at the 37 Lorry Station and its environs, patronised the exercise, which started at 0900 hours.

They were screened for their Blood Pressure levels, Eyes conditions, especially for glaucoma, dental and several other health conditions.

They were also educated on preventive health practices, including the need for hand washing to prevent cholera and typhoid.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Brigadier General Ernest C. Saka, the Commander of the premier Hospital, said as part of activities marking the Hospital’s 75th Anniversary, the outreach programme was held to touch lives.

He said: “This outreach is taking place to engage and educate the citizenry who are not visibly sick to advise them on the best hygienic practices they need to cultivate to prevent sicknesses.”

He said through the interaction and public sensitisation, medical officers also educated the beneficiaries on the need for regular checkups.

Brig Gen Saka said where there was the need for referrals; the patients would be directed to the various hospitals for extensive treatment to be offered them.

“We take so many things for granted but we need to know that eating the right foods and washing our hands thoroughly at the right times are the best ways to improve our health,” he advised.

Colonel Raymond Ewusi, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, said it was the hope of the Hospital to make the health screening an annual feature, especially when the citizenry hardly had time to visit medical facilities for routine check-ups.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA expressed their happiness about the exercise, saying it was good and timely.

The yearlong activities are on the theme: “Celebrating our Legacy, Progressive Future and Ensuring Quality to our Clients.”
