Second Lady joins calls for improved family planning programme | 19th July, 2017

The Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs Samira Bawumia has joined calls for Global efforts to help women plan their families – and help address unsustainable population growth in countries especially within the sub-Saharan region.

She said women and girls, who have access to family planning, are able to complete their education, create or seize better economic opportunities, and also fulfill their full potential hence the need for African leaders to redirect their attention to the full implementation of family planning programmes and policies.

She said, this when achieve could go a long way to strengthened national policies and programming by governments and also improve the health of adolescents and young people.

Mrs Bawumia noted this when she together with the Deputy Minister of Health and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija - Gbawe Constituency Hon. Tina Gifty Mensah attended this year’s ‘World Family Planning Summit’ at London in the United Kingdom.

The Summit, which brought together policymakers, donors, and advocates from around the world to discuss efforts to reach our Family Planning 2020 goals, was also aimed at ensuring that women and girls around the world are able to properly plan their families and their future.
