The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) has condemned an alleged strategy by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) of engaging the union without a mandate, leading to delays in the negotiations.
The negotiations, which began nearly two years ago, aim to establish a condition of service for medical laboratory science professionals in the public sector.
The association has also acknowledged the frustrations faced by Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union (MELPWU) leadership in containing the pressure from its membership.
A statement signed by GAMLS President, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahman on Wednesday, May 29, warned that any further delays or unfair treatment may lead to disruptions in diagnostic laboratory services.
The association has called for transparency and fairness in the negotiation process to build trust and promote a harmonious working relationship between employers and the workforce.
Meanwhile, GAMLS has encouraged its members to support MELPWU and be prepared for further instructions as they engage the National Labour Commission on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
“We have learnt with much displeasure the strategy of FWSC engaging our Union without the necessary mandate just to delay the negotiations. We have also observed the frustrations that the leadership of the Union are going through in containing the pressure being mounted by the membership which has necessitated our call for a prompt and effective resolution to the negotiation impasse to prevent further disruption of diagnostic laboratory services and to ensure a conducive working environment.”
