The Foundation was established to drive Vodafone Ghana’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to lead to social change and improved standards of living.

 

The medical programme, dubbed “HealthFest” was introduced by the Foundation in 2014 as an avenue to provide basic healthcare interventions for Ghanaians across all the ten regions annually.

 

The beneficiaries of the exercise underwent general health examination including tests for diabetes, hypertension, malaria and HIV and AIDS.

 

It was carried out by medical practitioners and support staff from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

 

A release from the Vodafone Ghana Foundation and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona, the Osu Mantse and the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs noted the significance of health check-ups.

 

He said: “We should be curious about what goes on in our bodies regularly and take necessary steps to keep ourselves healthy to better impact society.”

 

Nii Kinka Dowuona observed that the Vodafone Foundation was making a very significant impact in the lives of Ghanaians, adding that; “this is not the first time it has come to our aid and I truly value their consistent interventions and we are very grateful to them.”

 

Mr Ebenezer Amankwah, the Corporate Relations Manager of Vodafone said: “Majority of Ghanaians still have difficulty assessing basic healthcare and that must be a source of concern for us all.”

 

He said: “HealthFest is a platform that we believe helps address this issue to some extent. We hope to continue delivering on this mandate as the years come by because we owe it as a duty to this country and its people.”

 

Mr Amankwah said at the heart of the Foundation was the belief that innovative mobile communications technologies could address some of the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.
