Members of the Community Health Nurses Association of Ghana (COHNAG), on Tuesday dissociated themselves from media reports that they intend to withdraw their services.

Ms Esther F. Bamfo, COHNAG President together with the Brong Ahafo Regions Financial Secretary; Ms Mavis Kwapong, stormed the Ghana News Agency office in Accra to refute the story, saying it is not true.

She therefore called on stakeholders to disregard the news, which said the Association together with Enrolled Nurses, decided to lay down their tools, which was attributed to one Fredrick Limbe, who claims to be the President of the Enrolled Nurses.

Ms Bamfo therefore called on members of the Association to disregard the publication and continue to perform their normal duties.

She said there was no iota of truth in the statement, claiming that there is no group in the country known as Enrolled and Community Nurses Association with Limbe as its President.

The National President of COHNAG noted that nowhere has the association decided to withdraw its services partially, following any purported disagreement with the Health Ministry.

Ms Bamfo said the Association and the Ministry of Health (MOH) have had fruitful discussion on the need to guarantee career progression and improvement and conditions of service.

She said the Ministry has been working with stakeholders to address other challenges the group is facing which includes the issue of top up programme in career development and the discussion has so far been progressive and we are positive about the development.

She said the nations universities such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Cape Coast have given the green light that they would be admitting Community Health Nurses for their top up programmes.

Ms Bamfo recounted that on February 5, stakeholders met in Kumasi for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to that effect with KNUST.

She therefore, urged COHNAG members, the government, the MOH, the Ghana Health Service and the public to disregard the statement.

She said the Association renders an unqualified apology to the government, health authorities and the public for any discomfort the publication might have caused them.

Ms Bamfo urged her colleagues to remain at post and serve the interest of Ghana, adding that any further development would be communicated to them.

She assured members that COHNAG would continue to fight for the promotion of their welfare.
