Observe protocols after taking COVID vaccines –Dr Addah | 19th July, 2021

The Head of Medical Services at The Community Hospital (TCH) at Ashongman Estates in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region Dr. Eric Asore Addah says one is not immune from contracting the deadly corona virus after taking the recommended vaccines.

According to him, there may still be chances of contracting the virus if a person fails to adhere to all necessary protocols outlined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to prevent covid 19.

He therefore advised Ghanaians to continue keeping physical distancing, wearing nose mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoid crowded areas, washing hands with soap and running water and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue to help prevent the rapid spread of the novel virus in the country.

Dr. Addah said this during an exclusive interview with Ghanahopistals.org’s correspondent, Theresa Workartey last week.

Touching on the on the new Delta variant, he noted that the new delta variant of covid 19 which was first recorded in India and has subsequently found its way into other countries including Ghana has been described as more deadly since it is more and easily transmissible and has a higher risk of hospitalizations when compared to other variants.

“Once a person contracts the deadly delta variant it confuses the immune cells in the body as it is not able to identify or detect it as a virus which allows it to replicates itself and turn into severe diseases or even death over a short period”, he stated.

He mentioned that some signs and symptoms of the new delta variant fever, cough, runny and or blocked nose.

He added that patients with impaired immune system such as patients with underlining ailment such as diabetes are at high risk of not recovering from the delta variant or other variants of covid.

He therefore advised the general population stay home to ensure if they suspect to have been exposed to the virus to help save others and avoid its spread.
