The Disease Control Officer from the Adansi North District Health Directorate, Franklin Ampofo, has revealed that, Tuberculosis (TB), a disease that is caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis which affects the lungs and other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine has been identified as a health threat in the District and therefore urges people to report any suspected case to his outfit for immediate response and action.
He however assured that, although TB is communicable, it is curable when infected persons avail themselves for treatment and monitoring. He explained that, TB is usually transmitted when people with lung TB spit, sneeze or cough into the air and others breath in.
The Officer gave these insights in a presentation he made at the 1st meeting of the District Risk Communication and Management Committee meeting for the year 2024, held at the Amoanimaa Dede II hall -Fomena, to sensitize committee members on TB so they can in turn, educate community members on the disease for easy detection and free treatment.
The District Coordinating Director, Thomas Okrah Kwame who is the chairman for the committee entreated members to play active role in the dissemination of the knowledge they have acquired to help their communities and various publics they come into contact with so that, the purpose and impact of the committee would be realized at the grassroot level.
The Director for the District Health Directorate, Eric Atuahene Agyemang in his remarks said that, behavioral change is very necessary to achieving good health. He alerted that, babies stand a higher risk of getting infections from mothers who do not take their personal hygiene seriously and also cautioned people to be careful with self-medication because not all drugs can be taken without prescription due to the possibility of serious implications arising when such drugs are taken.
Committee members comprising representation from the Traditional Council, Veterinary Service, Health Directorate, NGOs, NCCE, NADMO, ISD and others made it a point to support the agenda for the development of the District.
