Ziavi traditional authorities poised to enhance healthcare, commissions health staff bungalow | 23rd July, 2024

The traditional authorities of Ziavi in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region are poised to enhance healthcare delivery in the enclave.

In light of this, they initiated and saw to the completion of a 2-unit staff bungalow for the Ziavi Health Center, with the support of First Atlantic Bank.

This is geared toward ensuring that caregivers at the Health Center are readily available in the community and accessible to residents in times of emergencies.

The project was started with funds from the celebrations of the 2023 Awazorli celebrations. It, however, stalled after the completion of the structural works.

Through the influence of the Dutorfia of Ziavi, Togbe Adzanye IV, the First Atlantic Bank provided funding for the completion of the 2-unit 2-bedroom bungalow.

Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, the Ho Municipal Director of Health Services, Perfect Titiati
listed accommodation as one of the challenges affecting healthcare in her jurisdiction.

She said the development makes it very difficult for healthcare workers to provide uninterrupted services, especially attending to emergencies at odd hours.

“There are a lot of challenges we have in the health sector trying to provide quality health services to our communities. Key among them is lack of staff accommodation. It makes it difficult for us to post staff to our rural communities and to keep them in the communities.

So most of our communities around here, when we post staff, the story we have is that they all reside in Ho and they commute to their facilities because they do not get decent accommodation to live in”, she laments

She, therefore, lauded traditional authorities in Ziavi for the impactful initiative of providing accommodation for the hardworking staff of the Ziavi Health Center.

“We are extremely grateful to the elders of this community for the opportunity given to us to serve them and their continuous support in ensuring that there is quality health service provision through improvement in infrastructure and equipment“, she said.

The Board Chairman of First Atlantic Bank, Amarquaye Armar said the bank aims to contribute to achieving universal health coverage in Ghana, and hence would continue to inject resources into the countrys health sector.

He said that since his outfit recognizes that access to healthcare is a fundamental human, the board of the Bank did not hesitate to approve the request of Togbe Adzanye IV, and provided funding for the project.

“As we officially open the doors to the Ziavi Health Quarters, let this facility symbolize our sheer commitment to the health and prosperity of the Ziavi community. We believe that this continuous collaboration, innovation and dedication, we can make a significant difference in the lives of many”, he said.

He entreated occupants of the bungalow to cultivate the best maintenance practices to ensure the longevity of the facility.

The Acting President of the Ziavi Traditional Council and Chief of Ziavi Lume, Togbe Adza Kodzo IV appreciated the banks efforts toward the development of Ziavi.

He, however, appealed to the First Atlantic Bank to help construct and furnish a maternity facility to help elevate the status of the Ziavi Health Center to a Poly Clinic.

“We are indeed very grateful and continue to pray, as we humbly ask for another edifice to be well furnished which would solely be used for maternity services. Our hope is to expand this facility into a Poly Clinic in the near future”, he said.

Togbe Adzanye was enthused about the prompt delivery of the project and indicated that if public project managers and constructors could pick a cue from the First Atlantic Bank project team, it would save Ghanas public purse some money.

“I must say that you completed this project within a record time of five weeks. If all projects were implemented like this in the country, I do not think we would be having cost override”, he said.

Togbe Adzanye requested the bank to help realize the communitys vision of upgrading the Health Center to a Poly Clinic status.

“This one [staff bungalow] we started it and then you came to complete it, I know if you were to have started it, I know it would have been way bigger than this.

So as a complementary project, I am pleading on behalf of the people of Ziavi that this maternity ward, please Mr. Chairman, you are now a citizen of Ziavi, and you are not doing this because you are a citizen of Ziavi. Thank you and I know you will fulfil that promise. I am most grateful” said Togbe Adzanye IV.
